You’re a photographer? or you want to be one photographer? Whoever you are, the concept of aperture settings must be clear in order to take good photos. Either you’re a beginner or you’re interested to know about it or even you’re doing your school homework, this my short article shall help you with it. Let’s begin the fun and explain you in my own words.

Q. What is Aperture?

A. Aperture is a type of breach or diameter that passes the light in your camera through lens. You didn’t got anything or did you? Okay again, aperture is like your eyes, when you open your eyes then you start consuming light through pupil (the black circle in the middle). This pupil here act like the camera’s aperture. So, when you click shot button, then the shutter opens and the total diameter of the opening passage is the measurement of your aperture settings. That opening hole size determines the amount of light the camera will absorb.

Q. How Aperture is measured?

A. It is usually measured in F-stop for example f/22 or f/2.8 in a manual aperture control settings in a DSLR camera. In compact digital cameras, this things are automatically adjusted for which those cameras are never considered as PRO (otherwise photographers wouldn’t have been earning big sum of money with their SLrs).

The measurement kinda works in the opposite way as we generally might think because these settings are expressed in decimal numbers. Remember the following key function of F-stop:

Higher numbers of F-stop or aperture settings => Allows lowest amount of lights
Lower numbers of F-stop or aperture settings => Allows highest amount of lights

We’ll review a picture that were taken in aperture priority settings for better understanding that what we can do with aperture and how it is useful to us.

The picture above shows brief details about the pictures taken in different aperture settings or you can say f-stop numbers. This example is to make you understand that how aperture settings effect in the camera.

Since you already now know that when at what settings the camera lets more or less lights into the camera so you should be able to judge by the numbers of what is happening. (Sorry about the website address watermark on the pictures, I had to do it to protect the images from being stolen by someone else).

First from the left, which has f/2.8, where more light has entered into the camera and thus giving the blur effect of the scene at the back of the focused object. Therefore, the object in-front only has the sharpness aside others.

Next has the semi background blur f/5, which means that the front portion of the picture has the depth pictured sharp where the rest of the remained blur. Also notice the main object which still remained sharp from top to bottom.

Last two photos with the settings f/10 and f/16 are both similar. f/10 has it’s background even more clearer than f/5 but still the depth is not defined very clearly. But with the settings f/16, the depths of the background is highly defined and it is sharper than any other aperture settings here. And the settings like f/16 or higher is very good for landscape photos.

Wow! now you know how to blur the background of a picture when snapping, that’s a skill improvement for you. When I was young with no knowledge of photography (I was a dumb), then I used to imagine, how the heck the photo have such blurry effects until the day I learned this stuffs. And it is really a cool effect that most people want when targeting their photo in one object rather landscapes.

Now aperture and shutter speed are very closely linked with each other. If you set aperture to high then the shutter speed will increase at the same time and vice-versa. If you’re taking a snap of a faster photo with high shutter speed and in lower light then you can minimize the aperture or f-stop to allow more lights into your camera. This is really useful because not all pictures can be taken with lot’s of time and adjusts. Sometimes we need to take instant shots. And I tell you what, in the beginning, you will have trouble taking photos faster but once you get hold of it, then it’s just a piece of cake.

There you go, you’ve just learned it and I am done writing this article. Feel free to ask question if you’re having difficulties or if you think that I might have written anything wrong in this article. I would be glad to fix it.

Hello folks, it’s been many days I ain’t publishing any articles ever since I started my own blogging. While I was doing photography in last week (which is off working days for me) I came up with shutter speed issues/complains being raised by many people surrounding me. So, I thought of writing some little information about it which might help many others to understand this small yet powerful feature of a DSLR /Advanced cameras.

Let’s being from basic (i know it’s little boring but read, it is interesting to know these stuffs).

Q. What is shutter in a camera?

A. Simply it is a window (as like in your house) between the camera and lens. Which opens and closes in the event of snapping photographs. At your left is a sample picture for understanding what is shutter in your camera.

Q. What happens when it opens and closes back?

A. When the shutter is opened after you hit the SHOT button, then the camera starts getting light from outside while it snaps immediately and completes the process of taking a picture. If you ask, then yes, earlier the place is all dark and it needs to remain dark at all time. (I wouldn’t have answered this question but seems like many people wants to know it so here you go) for dummies .

Now let’s talk about shutter speed. I am sure you might have already guessed what is shutter speed and that is almost correct whatever on your mind. I will now clear your query and thus will increase your photography skills, the explanation of your question is as below:

Q. What is shutter speed & how it is measured?

A. The time a shutter consumes to open for snapping a picture and closes back, this total time determines the shutter speed. It is always measured in split-seconds in all types of advanced cameras. Now read carefully and save it in your brain the following laws:

Longer the shutter window remains open, much more light is being allowed in your camera = Lower Shutter Speed

Faster the shutter window closes, smaller amount of light allowed in your camera = Higher Shutter Speed

Even though it is a very easy and simple part of the camera but that is the main portio. This is very powerful that you can change the type of your photographs easily and without the skill of adjusting shutter speed, you won’t get good results with your SLRs or DSLRs.

You already know the laws of shutter speeds and below are examples of bird hunting for fish & water drops related pictures that were taken in Higher Shutter Speed:

These are the pictures that we always see that professional photographer shoot but now you’d got the point that now you can take photos like above and you must be feeling so good about it but don’t be too happy. I just said about the shutter speed only, the photos in this articles include different tweaks, specially Aperture settings. This is just one step of learning professional digital photography.

Here’s some examples of Lower Shutter Speed pictures of fireworks, highway at night & streets taken with advanced cameras:

Slower shutter speed photographs are much harder to take without any tripods. It is advised to use tripods or keep your arms in a hard surface for steady shot as you need to hold it for a while (tripod is a must if using shutter speed of 1/30 or lower). Best for fireworks related photographs and cool night city lights photos. You can get good amount of real blurry effects on your photo (this is not a after effect by Photoshop but real one that you can capture directly).

Practice and practice with your camera or lend one for practicing and you will learn lot’s of techniques that I might not know. When you’re playing with shutter speed, as a tips I can tell you to use faster shutter speed of 1/125 or more for fast moving objects. Where as shutter speed of 1/60 or slower for pictures like fireworks (not good for sports because they requires faster shots).

Feel free to comment back if you do not understand any part of my articles (I will spare some time to reply back), all I hope that my article helps anyone who is learning digital photography.

It seems like many people with self managed dedicated servers or virtual private server is facing issues with their cPanel license in certain steps. Maybe you’d installed new cPanel Addons from root or maybe you’d just rebooted your server after initial installation of cPanel then you may face this type of errors.

First, no need to worry, it’s very common and happening to many of us. Because we know that cPanel.net is very strict with their licensing system thus this issues arises. However, just follow the steps below and for sure it will be solved for you:

1 )=> Log into your server via SSH (root) and run the following command:

/usr/local/cpanel/cpkeyclt

2)=> Now log in into your Web Host Manager (WHM) or cPanel again. If the key is still reported as missing, return to SSH and run the following command:

/scripts/upcp --force

3)=> Wait for the update to complete, and then try refreshing the key again with:

/usr/local/cpanel/cpkeyclt

Please note: Your server time needs to be correct for your license to be synced with cPanel’s licensing system. You cannot anyhow use random time, must keep up with the actual time. And then everything should go smoothly.

If still not working, then you can comment back your issue with error message and I will try getting back with you guys.

When I looked at the PHPMyAdmin’s themes website, I was like WOW! They don’t even have sufficient information regarding such installation. All it said me to upload the theme folder directly under the theme folder which is inside the phpMyAdmin folder.

Now my web server uses cPanel WHM server which is very popular and most useful control panel. I do have root access but don’t know where the theme folder is located. I searched the root directories, cpanel directories including home etc. But couldn’t find that easily. Finally it was found in the following directory location which you will find in your server:

/usr/local/cpanel/base/3rdparty/phpMyAdmin/themes

Now in order for you to install your favorite themes in your cPanel based server, login to your server via SSH (OpenSSH). You can use PuTTY which is a free SSH Client and easy to use (make sure you have root access to your server). You can download one from bit.ly/rSqZOX and install it on your computer.

cd /usr/local/cpanel/base/3rdparty/phpMyAdmin/themes

Once you’re logged into your server then write the following command:
Now you can use the “wget” command to download the themes from phpMyAdmin themes page which is located at bit.ly/ryyIFe. In our example we will use the theme “Pmamhomme”. Now to download, use the following command:

wget http://space.dl.sourceforge.net/project/phpmyadmin/themes/pmahomme/1.0b/pmahomme-1.0b.zip

Once the download is success in your server then unzip the file using the following command:
